One month to go! 0 (0)

Dear FD Sailors,

Just another month to go before the International Flying Dutchman World Championship 2018 kicks off in Medemblik. The organization is ready to welcome you in this beautiful area of the Netherlands.

Agreements have been made with all the major players (main sponsor AkzoNobel, local authorities and the regatta center). At the moment the last details are finalized for the social part of this great event.

For weeks the weather and wind conditions have been perfect (thanks to global warming??) so do not let the Dutch climate keep you from participating in this event. At the moment of writing 65 FD’s are registered to participate. The Dutch FD organization expects at least 80 boats, so if you have not registered yet, please do so asap. The more competing boats, the more fun (and we will keep our organization financially healthy)!

We look forward to see you in Medemblik! Enter here.

Youth Grant 2018

We on the General Committee recognise just how important it is for the Classes future to encourage young people to start sailing the FD and so we must do everything we can to support them, especially in attending our major championships, where the cost of entry, travel and accommodation often can be prohibitively expensive. We re-launched the Youth Grant scheme  for the World Championships in Steinhude, and a number of young teams to advantage of the money being offered. For 2017 we have increased the Grant to 75€ for those coming from Europe and 150€ for those attending from outside mainland Europe. We therefore want to remind all those under the age of 25 that they can apply to IFDCO for a Youth Grant. The criteria for Grant Applications for the World Championships in Scarlino are as follows:

  • Both Helmsmen & Crews can apply for a grant
  • Be under 25 years of age on the 23rd July 2018 (Published date for 1st Race)
  • Be a current Member of IFDCO
  • All recipients of a grant agree to write a short article for the International Bulletin and/or the website
  • Complete the attached application form and e-mail it to Peter Van Koppen the IFDCO Treasurer petervankoppen@hotmail.com at least 14 days prior to the event.

Please spread the word about these grants and I look forward to see as many of you as possible in Medemblik in July.

TONY LYALL

President IFDCO
