Postponement World Championship Spain to September 2021 3 (10)

As we are all aware and have to deal with the effects of the Corona-virus this all also effects  the sailing-activities all over the world. From different countries I hear the disappointment that we are not allowed to sail or sail regattas.

With all this in our minds and in the first place looking at the health of all sailors we have to
make a decision about hosting the World Championship in Spain this year.
With deep regret we have to make the decision to postpone the World Championship by one year. We waited as long as possible to make this decision hoping that there would be a positive change of facts. But there are so many reasons why we can only postpone the Championship (for example: one very good team would not be able to come as the crew cannot take any vacation this year in order to keep his job, the British sailors cannot come as their health insurances would not reimburse any medical costs correlated to Corona while going outside of Britain, all participation from outside Europe
was cancelled earlier due to the uncertainty of the Corona situation etc etc ).
Even if the medical situation would be a lot better in September we would not have a good and fair Championship for all these reasons. Let’s not forget even the Olympic games had to be postponed. Believe me we all would have liked so much to be in Spain this year and have good sailing in our phantastic FD but we just cannot decide otherwise.
The exact date next year will be published later. We have had contact with the Spanish about this and it will be in September again as this is by far the best time for the club!
Kind regards

World Championship 2020 in Altea 4.7 (3)

Dear all,

During the first week of June, we will post in this site confirmation on whether the 2020 Flying Dutchman World Championship, to be celebrated in Altea, Spain will be held as planned, postponed or cancelled.

The decision will respond to the recommendations and guidance by the Spanish Health Authorities, including regarding the movement of individuals, as they relate to the originally planned dates for the event.

As you can understand, we are in a difficult situation and dealing with a lot of uncertainty for the coming months. But from the Race Committee, we want to keep you informed of all the updates and decisions as per the National and International FD Class Organizations.

We hope to see an improvement of the situation soon so we all can go out sailing together again.

Fair winds.
