TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Technical description:
Alzavola II – I-494 is a historic wooden Flying Dutchman built by Bob Hoare in 1968. The boat was purchased by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV) for the Massone-Ottonello crew in connection with the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games.

The hull was restored in 2020 and brought back to a natural wood finish. In 2022 I commissioned a new custom-made set of sails by Sail Design. Mast, boom and standing rigging are in good usable condition.

The boat now requires further restoration and maintenance, in particular consolidation of the aft section, work around the mainsheet traveller area, and repairs to some areas of the topsides.

This is therefore not a ready-to-race boat, but a historically significant restoration project for someone interested in preserving and sailing a classic Flying Dutchman.

My priority is the preservation of the boat rather than its financial value. I am willing to give Alzavola II away free of charge to an experienced sailor, restorer, sailing club, association or sailing school with a serious and credible plan for its restoration and future care.

The boat is currently stored in Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany, Italy, and can be inspected by appointment. Additional photographs, historical material and videos are available on request.
