FD SPANISH CUP 2023 5 (1)

From Friday, May 5 to Sunday, May 7, the Spanish Cup of Flying Dutchman was celebrated in Altea. With fewer boats than normally, a total of 6 were ready to race some sleeves that were fun but very demanding.

The first day the wind was low with an intensity of about 6-7 knots that were a challenge for the sailors. It was the pair formed by Jose Sánchez and Carlos Gastaldi (ESP90) who took the lead at the end of the day after making two first places and a third. The ESP66 of the Enriques Egea also curdled a great performance with two second places and a fourth. The crew formed by Ginés Romero and Javier Cayuela (ESP6) was placed in second place with a first place in the first round.

Saturday was very hard with winds of up to 16 knots and waves that made the boats fly but the sailors had to give everything to squeeze their boats to the maximum. The big winners of the day were Juan Egea and Jerry Vinkestein (ESP-1), who won two races and were second in another. Meritorious was also the performance of the debutant as skipper Pablo Egea with his brother Guzmán as crew (ESP11) who got a second place after leading the sleeve a part of it. The ESP6 after winning the last round was provisional leader and left everything to say on Sunday.

Sunday dawned raining and promised little margin to decide a race that was very tight. Only one leg could be contested with very low winds of about 4 knots. After a rough start the ESP90 managed to win after beating the ESP66 by the minimum and thus managed to win the sleeve. The ESP-11 took third place.  This gave the title to the ESP90 in a deserved and very meritorious way after overcoming Saturday’s results.

The final classification was as follows:

  1. ESP90 Jose Sánchez and Carlos Gastaldi
  2. ESP6 Ginés Romero and Javier Cayuela
  3. ESP1 Juan Egea and Jerry Vinkestein

As always, many thanks to the Nautical Club of Altea for the organization and to the beacons and regatta director for their excellent work.

The spanish FD fleet will meet again in Torrevieja for the regional championship and then in Altea for the Yuasa cup before leaving for Poland for the world championship.

Season is coming… 5 (1)

Dear FD sailors

I hope you are all doing great and that you are excited for the new season that is about to start.

As you may have seen, during off season we have been trying to keep the social media active and we have gained lots of new followers and reached literally more than 1 million of persons thanks to visualization and interactions with our content.

But is during the season when we plan to get an extra growth and that can´t be done if we don’t have your help. In order to achieve that goal we URGENTLY need these things:

  1. Pictures and videos of all the regattas that take place along the season. The videos are best than the pictures so anything you have can be used.
  2. Reports of the regattas to use them for the bulletin and to post them in the web and social media.
  3. That the persons who have a Social Media account to always repost and mention FD. Also, when you comment and like our posts it helps us to be more in other people feeds.

Many thanks to everyone and specially to these persons that I mention below because they have helped me with videos, pictures and reports.

  • Carlo Zappa
  • Niklas Kiel
  • Nadan Kosanović
  • Eric Deleu
  • GER22 sailing Team
  • GER187 sailing Team

Altea Euroflying Cup 2023 4.8 (4)

The Euroflying Cup 2023 started last Thursday, March 16 in the waters of the bay of Altea. This international event that has more than 20 years of history brings together every year the best specialists of the Flying Dutchman light sailing class.

The test is organized by the Spanish Association of Flying Dutchman, the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation, the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community and the Nautical Club of Altea. The regatta also has the support of the Comunitat de l’Esport project of the  Generalitat Valenciana, a program for the Promotion of Sports Activity.

For the three days of regatta a total of 9 races were scheduled, but due to the low wind only 4 tests have been completed, enough to erect this year’s winners. The wind has blown during the three days with intensities of between 5 and 6 knots, allowing two sleeves on Thursday and two on Friday.

The wind made it more complicated for the Race Committee on Saturday. The scarcity and the continuous wind roles left the day blank.

The sailors of the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja, Francisco José Martínez and Jose Luis Ruiz, have positioned themselves throughout the race at the head of the classification, leaving impeccable results, four first in the four races disputed. The couple from Torrevieja has thus been proclaimed champions of this edition of the Euroflying Cup 2023.

His clubmates, Ginés Romero and Álvaro Moreno, followed them in the classification obtaining silver with two seconds as best partials. The third position was for a crew of the Club Náutico de Altea, formed by Marco Sevila and Roberto Sevila, father and son.

At 4:00 p.m. the trophy ceremony took place in the skipper room of the Club Náutico de Altea. The Bon Vent restaurant  offered attendees a sweet snack and drinks. The event was attended; Eduardo Revert, member of the Sailing Federation of  the Valencian Community,  Enrique Egea, secretary of the Flying Dutcham class  and José Rius, vice president of CN Altea.

Thus ends this first regatta that inaugurates the European circuit of the Flying Dutchman class. After this test in Altea the circuit will travel to ports in Italy, Austria, Germany and Croatia, where the fight between the best sailors of the Flying Dutchman class to win the European title will continue.

Racing FD Wanted 5 (4)

Dear Friends,
After sailing in FD for 33 years, my daughter (age of 27 ys) has decided to follow his father and join the FD fleet with another young lady. So a new female team is coming to catch us in the upcoming years!
So, we are searching for a used FD boat in good condition to buy before the next season start! Five to 12 years old boats (building year after 2010) would be of interest.
If you have any idea or know an FD for sale, please contact me (e-mail: polgar.c@outlook.com) and/or my daughter named Csenge Polgar (e-mail: csenge.polgar@gmail.com).
Please help us to allow some fresh blood into the FD fleet!
Thanks and regards:
