In its 56th year, the FD Cup at Lake Ammer even surprised its long-time participants in many ways. For one thing, a total of six of the eight races that were planned did actually take place, and the weather conditions of gleaming sunshine, temperatures in the upper twenties as well as good, fairly consistent wind conditions were also very much enjoyed by all sailing competitors and were felt almost comparable to conditions at Italian resorts.Of the 42 boats registered, and following the traditional welcome of white-sausage and free beer offered on the first day, 40 of them were ultimately present at the starting line for the first two races in light winds. As so often in the preceeding years – and especially regarding the lengths of the tacks – race manager Heinz Peter Nersinger and his team laid out a very harmonious circuit around the lake and thus created good preconditions for a multi-part regatta.
