Flying Dutchman Class – Boat Registration

Registering your Flying Dutchman with the IFDCO ensures that your boat is properly recorded within the class and that all ownership and technical data are up to date.

Please read the information below carefully before submitting your registration.

Needed information:

  • Number World Sailing Plaque or Number ISAF Plaque
  • Builder number (not only his name)

Who should register a boat?

Boat registration or registration updates are required:

  • have purchased a new Flying Dutchman

  • have bought a second-hand Flying Dutchman

  • have changed ownership of an existing boat

  • are registering a boat for the first time, including older or previously unregistered boats

  • need to update existing registration details without changing ownership


What information is required?

To register your boat, please prepare the following information:

  • Sail number and personal sail number (if provided)

  • Hull number (if available)

  • Builder / manufacturer

  • Year of build

  • Current owner’s full name

  • Owner’s address and country
  • Contact email address

  • Short technical description (if applicable)

Sail numbers and personal sail numbers are issued by the IFDCO in accordance with class rules.

Boat Registration – Important Information

The registration of a Flying Dutchman with the IFDCO is based on the information and declarations provided by the owner submitting the forms below.

The IFDCO reserves the right to review all submitted information and to request additional documentation where necessary, including measurement certificates or documents confirming the transfer of ownership.

Submitting a registration request does not automatically guarantee approval.
Registrations are recorded only after review and confirmation by the IFDCO.

Providing inaccurate or incomplete information may result in delays or rejection of the registration.


Registration process

  1. Complete the membership registration form on this page: Membership registration
  2. Complete the appropriate boat registration form:

      • FORM A ->Register a New or Previously Unregistered Flying Dutchman
      • FORM B ->Register a Second-hand Flying Dutchman / Change of Ownership
      • FORM C ->Update an Existing Flying Dutchman Registration (No Change of Ownership)
  3. Submit all required information accurately.

  4. The IFDCO will review your submission.

  5. If any information is missing or unclear, you may be contacted by email.

  6. Once approved, the registration will be recorded in the class database.


International regatta requirements

To participate in international Flying Dutchman regattas, the following requirements must be met:

  • Valid IFDCO membership for both the helmsman and the crew

  • Boat measurement in accordance with current class rules

  • Completed boat registration approved by the IFDCO, including the measurement form as proof that the boat has been measured in accordance with the current class rules.

If a boat has undergone significant structural or technical changes, it must be remeasured, and a new measurement certificate must be issued before the boat is eligible to compete in international regattas.

Compliance with these requirements is the responsibility of the boat owner and competitors. Failure to meet any of the above may result in ineligibility to compete in international events.
