FD Worlds 2026 – Final Day, Prize Giving and Overall Results
The final day of the FD World Championship 2026 started with AP ashore for about one hour, after thunderstorms had passed through Kiel during the night.
Once the fleet was released, the Flying Dutchman sailors headed back to Area Lima, with the journey to the race course again taking around one and a half hours.
The first race attempt was abandoned after about 15 minutes, following a sudden and significant wind shift. After another wait for the wind to stabilise from a new direction, the next start resulted in a general recall.
The race committee then moved to the black flag procedure. The following start brought major starting-line drama, with many crews scored BFD under the black flag.
Another race attempt was later abandoned during the second upwind leg, and the fleet returned to the harbour for the closing of the championship.
In the end, only four races were completed over the five days of the championship. It was not the racing programme everyone had hoped for, but the fleet showed patience, discipline and strong class spirit throughout a challenging week.

At the closing ceremony, IFDCO President Meike Greten thanked everyone for a wonderful week in Kiel, including the organisers, the race committee, the technical committee and the measurement team.
Congratulations to the new FD World Champions, Szabolcs Majthényi and András Domokos, and to all trophy winners.
The FD fleet is already looking ahead to the next World Championship, which will take place from 1 to 9 October 2027 in Pula, Croatia, hosted by Yacht-Club Vega.
A big thank you also to all crews who took part in the FD World Championship 2026 in Kiel, and to everyone who helped make this championship happen.
